In Spain, each Maritime Department kept a register of the men periodically incorporated into military service in the Navy. This record was called the Libro de Registro de Marinería. The registry contained the full name of each of these men, the names of the father and mother, the place and date of birth, and the date of registration in the Matricula de Mar or in the Inscripción Marítima. Likewise, the record also contained the various vicissitudes of his passage through military service in the navy, including dates of incorporation or cessation of activity, awards, promotions, and punishments.
