Archival Corpus
Archival collection name (source language): Ιστορικό Συμβολαιογραφικό Αρχείο Γαλαξειδίου
The historical notarial archive of Galaxidi, a small maritime community in mainland Greece, was originally housed in the local notarial office but it has been recently relocated to the branch of the Greek National Archives in Amphissa.
The archive is organised in yearly volumes, per notary, where all the notarial deeds are bound together. For several years, more than one notary was in service. The archival collection dates from 1836 till the present day, although for the purposes of the SeaLIT project we have collected and digitised the volumes up untin 1914. The source includes for example proxies, contracts of sales (ships, naval stores), shipbuilding orders, acquittances, agreements on dowry, which are extemely valuable to grasp the socio-economic reality of a maritme community under transition.
