Archival Corpus
Archival collection name (source language): Fons Familia Sust
Among other maritime related collections (for instance, documents from the Barba Viu family and the Costa Dalmau family, with some interesting crew agreement books), the Arxiu Municipal de Vilassar de Mar preserves an interesting colllection from the Sust family. The first member was an italian shipbuilder, Antonio Sosto, who arrived to Catalonia after a shipwreck. From him the family had two maritime-related branches. One of shipbuilders in Vilassar and also in Barcelona, located in the Barceloneta quarter, and another of shipmasters and shipowners. During the 19th and 20th centuries some members of the family were captains (Jaime Sust Alsina, Emilio Sust Mir, Pedro Sust Sala, etc.). The last of them, Feliciano Sust Cisa, served also as a pilot in the port of Barcelona.
The collection is formed by different donations of the family descendants, and it is a very heterogeneus sample of documents as logbooks, libros de cuenta y razón, correspondence, photographs et al. At present (April 2020) the family still is in the process of donating logbooks and other documents to the Museu Marítim de Barcelona.
