The book explores the regularities and peculiarities of the capitalist transformation of Ukraine, on the basis of a case-study concerning the modernization processes that took place in the commercial fleet of the Azov-Black Sea basin in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The composition, stereotypes of views and social behaviour of entrepreneurs and seafarers of the South of Ukraine are covered, their mutual relations in the period of formation of an industrial society are analyzed.
